Description :
7,10-Hexadecadienoic acid is a fatty acid that has been detected in animal tissue and breast milk. The presence of this fatty acid in plasma or urine could be an indicator of cancer, especially prostate cancer. 7,10-Hexadecadienoic acid is also found in the blood of women with polycystic ovary syndrome. This fatty acid inhibits the enzyme diacylglycerol lipase and may be involved in the development of obesity and diabetes. 7,10-Hexadecadienoic acid can be used to determine the number of formyl groups (formyl) on a molecule by reacting with osmium tetroxide to form an osmium-7,10-hexadecadienoate complex. This complex can then be determined using analytical methods such as gas chromatography or mass spectrometry.
