Hexachloropropene is a chlorinated compound that contains six chlorine atoms and one carbon atom. This chemical has been shown to cause genotoxic effects in both vitro and in vivo experiments. Hexachloropropene has been shown to bind to DNA, forming adducts that can lead to mutations and cancer. In vitro tests have found that hexachloropropene binds to the enzyme fatty acid synthase, which is involved in the production of fatty acids. It also inhibits the activity of enzymes involved in pyrimidine synthesis, such as uracil-DNA glycosylase (UNG) and endonuclease VIII (Nth). Hexachloropropene also binds to metals such as iron and copper, which are important for DNA synthesis. The reaction mechanism for hexachloropropene is chain reactions with hydrogen fluoride, leading to the formation of reactive radicals.
