- N-Methyl-N-methylolformamide
- formamide, N-(hydroxymethyl)-N-methyl-
N-hydroxymethyl-N-methylformamide is a chemical that is metabolized in the liver. It has been shown to inhibit growth factor synthesis and liver cell proliferation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit hydroxylation of retinol to form retinoic acid. This compound also has been shown to impair the activity of enzymes involved in metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics, including cytochrome P450 and UDP-glucuronosyltransferases. N-hydroxymethyl-N-methylformamide is not found in humans but has been detected in urine samples from rats and humans.
