Description

Hexyl acetate is a reactive compound that contains a hexyl group. It can be synthesized by reacting hexanol with acetic anhydride in the presence of hydrogen fluoride. Hexyl acetate is found in natural compounds such as essential oils and has been used as a perfume ingredient. The method for the analysis of hexyl acetate requires solid phase microextraction and gas chromatography, which can detect 0.1 ppm of the analyte in spiked samples. Hexyl acetate has shown to have protease activity, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with amino groups on proteins, leading to protein breakdown.
