Description

Isolithocholic acid is a bile acid that is produced in the liver from chenodeoxycholic acid. It is found in human feces, and can be detected by chemical analyses of biological samples. Isolithocholic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of hydroxyl group and inhibit the activity of cyp3a4 in human liver cells. Isolithocholic acid also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by inhibiting the enzyme, NADPH oxidase 2. This inhibition prevents oxidative stress and protects against autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes mellitus and rheumatoid arthritis. Isolithocholic acid was found to be a potent inhibitor of dinucleotide phosphate-dependent enzymes.
