Desloratadine is a non-sedating antihistamine that is used to treat allergic symptoms. It is a prodrug that is metabolized to the active ingredient desloratadine in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes. 5-Hydroxy desloratadine can be detected in human plasma using nanospray mass spectrometry, which allows for quantification of high levels of endogenous and exogenous compounds with low levels of interference. The technique has been validated to measure human liver cyp2c19 activity and to analyze drug interactions.
