Description

Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug that can be given intravenously or orally. It is used to treat certain cancers, such as leukemia, and various other diseases, such as arthritis and psoriasis. Methotrexate inhibits the synthesis of DNA by blocking enzymes involved in the process of DNA replication. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the production of energy in cells by inhibiting mitochondrial enzymes. Methotrexate may also have a beneficial effect on disease activity, but this effect has not been confirmed in clinical trials. The stability of methotrexate in human serum depends on its pH and concentration.
