Description

(S)-3-Hydroxymyristic acid is a fatty acid that has been shown to be an efficient catalyst in asymmetric synthesis. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Clostridium perfringens. It also has the potential to be used as a topical antimicrobial agent for the treatment of bacterial skin infections and it may have anti-inflammatory properties. (S)-3-Hydroxymyristic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to lipase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of triglycerides. This inhibition prevents fatty acids from being released from cells, leading to cell death.
