4-Hydroxy-2,6-dimethylacetanilide is a metabolite of acetaminophen. It is eliminated through the kidneys and is not found in plasma after bolus doses. The elimination of 4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylacetanilide occurs through the cytosolic protein system. Plasma concentrations of this drug can be measured by clinical chemistry or by gas chromatography. These measurements can be used to determine the amount of 4-hydroxydimethylacetanilide in urine samples and cardiac tissue. CD-1 mice are often used as a model for human metabolism because they are more sensitive to drugs than other mouse strains.
