(3R,4S,5R)-4-Hydroxy-5-[(1S)-1-hydroxy-2-methylpropyl]-3-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone is a lactacystin analog. It is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the ubiquitin proteasome pathway and sensitizes cancer cells to radiation. (3R,4S,5R)-4-Hydroxy-5-[(1S)-1-hydroxy-2-methylpropyl]-3-methyl-2pyrrolidinone has been shown to inhibit the growth of malignant cells in vitro and has tumoricidal activity in vivo. This compound also inhibits the expression of regulatory proteins, such as p53 and p21, which are involved in cell cycle regulation and tumor suppression.
