S-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-L-cysteine is a molecule that is used as a diagnostic agent. It reacts with monoclonal antibodies to form an antigen-antibody complex, which can be detected by the use of a colorimetric test. S-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-L-cysteine has been shown to be effective in detecting the presence of malonic acid in urine samples and il-17a in blood serum samples. Using this compound, it was also possible to detect the presence of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae in urine samples.
