N-Hydroxysuccinimidyl pyrenebutanoate is a fluorescent probe that can be used for the detection of DNA mutations. It produces a change in fluorescence when the disulfide bond is cleaved by the oxidizing agent, resulting in an increased intensity of emission at 530 nm. This chemical is stable and does not exhibit any significant changes in fluorescence over time. N-Hydroxysuccinimidyl pyrenebutanoate also has been shown to react with human serum albumin and other proteins, which facilitates its use as an indicator of growth factor activity. These properties make it suitable for use as a marker of cellular proliferation in mammalian tissues and epidermal growth.
