D-Homoserine is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of wild-type homoserine to homoserine lactone. D-Homoserine is a part of the enzyme protein complex, which has been shown to be inhibited by a number of compounds. The inhibition of this enzyme may be used as a way to control bacterial growth in wastewater treatment.
D-Homoserine belongs to the class of enzymes called aspartokinase and converts wild-type homoserine into homoserine lactone. It also belongs to the class of enzymes called polymerases, which are involved in DNA replication and repair. In vitro assays have shown that D-homoserine can be inhibited by dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH).
