6-Hydroxy-1,4-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile is an organic compound that is a diazonium salt. It can be prepared by the reaction of acetoacetate and elemental sulfur in the presence of chlorosulfonic acid. The chemical structure of 6-Hydroxy-1,4-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine 3-(carbonitrile) (HDCN) was determined by optical spectroscopy and elemental analysis.
Molecular absorption coefficients are measured for HDCN and its derivatives in the visible spectrum range from 400 to 800 nm. The formaldehyde yields were calculated using the Beer's law equation. The solvents used were benzotriazole and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
