Description :Hydroxyethyl starch is a synthetic colloid derived from partially hydrolyzed and variably hydroxyethylated plant starch. Solutions of hydroxylethyl starch are used in intravenous therapy as volume expanders to prevent shock resulting from severe blood loss. Safety concerns have been raised regarding use of hydroxylethyl starch particularly in patients with kidney problems or sepsis.
