• Description: 4-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-one is an organic compound that is used as a solid catalyst. It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of 2-aminoterephthalic acid from glycerol and carbon dioxide. 4-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-one also promotes the reaction in which metal hydroxides react with hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxygen gas. The catalyst can be used for the production of fatty acids by reacting with hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide. 4-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-one binds to tryptophan and fluoresces under UV light due to the presence of a hydroxyl group. This property can be used to detect its presence in reaction solutions or on surfaces.
