Hexafluoropropene trimer is a reactive functional group that can be used as a substrate film. The reactive functional group can be used to produce films with high surface area and low density. Hexafluoropropene trimer has been shown to react with calcium carbonate, metal surfaces, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid to form a thin film on the surface of the material. This film is composed of hydrocarbon chains that are aliphatic in nature and have an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy that is characteristic of phenyl groups. Hexafluoropropene trimer also reacts with hydrochloric acid to form perfluoroalkyl groups containing one or more fluorine atoms.
