6-Hydroxyisoquinoline is a natural compound found in the seeds of the plant Carthamus tinctorius. 6-Hydoxyisoquinoline has been shown to have insulin sensitizing properties and inhibit proteolytic activity. It also binds to the hydroxyl group of serine and threonine residues on proteins, which inhibits substrate binding and reduces insulin resistance. 6-Hydroxyisoquinoline has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro, as well as anti-diabetic activities in vivo. This compound may be effective in treating insulin resistance, diabetes, and cancer.
