2-Hydroxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (2HQC) is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to have anticancer properties. 2HQC has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis through the activation of 5HT4 receptors. The anticancer effect of 2HQC is mediated by the inhibition of DNA synthesis, which leads to decreased cell proliferation and increased cell death. It also inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to opioid receptors, resulting in decreased production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-6. This compound can be synthesized from formamide, ethyl esters, and anhydrous potassium carbonate in high yield.
