• Description: Hydroxocobalamin HCl is a vitamin that is required for the formation of coenzyme B12. It is used to treat megaloblastic anemia, pernicious anemia, and other conditions in which vitamin B12 is deficient. Hydroxocobalamin HCl also has been shown to have physiological effects, including the inhibition of enzyme activities such as nitrite reductase and sephadex g-100. This drug binds to a number of enzymes, including group P2 enzymes (e.g., nitrate reductase) and thermolytic enzymes (e.g., hydroxylases). Hydroxocobalamin HCl has a redox potential that allows it to act as a hydrogen donor in reactions with electron acceptors such as nitrite ion or oxygen.
