5-Hydroxytoluene-2-boronic acid is an anthracene derivative that is reactive and innovative. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of tumor growth in vivo assays. The LD50 of 5-hydroxytoluene-2-boronic acid was found to be 1.5 g/kg in mice, which is higher than the LD50 for doxorubicin, but lower than the LD50 for 5-fluorouracil. This drug has been used for the treatment of cancer and has been tested in mice with tumors. It was found that there was a reduction in the diameter and metastasis of the tumors when this drug was administered intravenously. Encapsulated 5-hydroxytoluene 2-boronic acid has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth without causing severe side effects such as hair loss and weight loss.
