• Description: 4-Hydroxybenzhydrazide is a molecule that contains an eosinophil peroxidase. The active form of this molecule is the copper complex, which has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi. 4-Hydroxybenzhydrazide binds to the hydroxyl group of amino acids in proteins, preventing them from being used for growth factor synthesis. This leads to death of the cell. It also inhibits epidermal growth factor (EGF) production by binding to its receptor on the cell surface, which prevents EGF from stimulating protein synthesis.
