4-Hydroxy-4'-methoxybiphenyl (4HMBP) is a donor of hydroxyl groups and a homologue of biphenyl. 4HMBP can be synthesized from boronic acids and sodium chloride. The crystal compound has been observed in the form of an alkene with methyl groups on either side, which is chiral. 4HMBP has been shown to have antibacterial properties, as well as the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. This compound has also been used in microscopy studies to explore synthetic pathways for biphenyl compounds.
