Description

4' Hexylacetophenone is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of aromatic compounds. It is an important intermediate in organic synthesis, and has been used as a precursor for the synthesis of other biologically active compounds. 4' Hexylacetophenone can be prepared by reacting acetophenone with sodium bisulfite. The proton NMR spectrum of 4' Hexylacetophenone exhibits peaks at 2.5 ppm, 7.6 ppm, and 8.9 ppm corresponding to protons on the aromatic ring and side chain respectively. This technique has been used to study the effects of proton injection on organisms such as Bimaculatus erythropus, which are genetically engineered to fluoresce when injected with protonated molecules such as anthracene or fluorescent rna.
