Description

Hydroxyvalerenic acid is a valerian-type compound derived from the roots of Valeriana officinalis. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain and to affect chloride transport pathways. Hydroxyvalerenic acid also has genotoxic effects on cultured human cells, which may be due to its ability to bind cation channels.
