Description

7-Hydroxy-5-methylflavone is a phytoalexin that belongs to the chemical class of flavonoids. It has been shown to activate peroxisome proliferator activated receptor α (PPARα) and inhibit the uptake of fatty acids in vitro. 7-Hydroxy-5-methylflavone has been shown to prevent insulin resistance and inhibit carcinogenesis in hamster V79 cells. Furthermore, this compound has been shown to reduce body weight gain in diabetic patients and increase glucose tolerance in obese mice by inhibiting fat accumulation. 7-Hydroxy-5-methylflavone also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by stimulating tumor suppressor protein p53, which is involved in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
