Description

6-Hydroxyflavone is a bioactive phenolic that has been shown to have in vitro antifungal activity against Candida glabrata. It inhibits the activity of the enzyme, hydrogen peroxide reductase, which is necessary for the synthesis of intracellular hydrogen peroxide. This inhibition leads to cell death by apoptosis. 6-Hydroxyflavone also has antibacterial efficacy against S. aureus and E. coli, and it possesses antioxidative properties (i.e., scavenging reactive oxygen species) as well as locomotor activity in mice.
