Description :Hexachlorodisilane is a compound with the chemical formula SiCl6. It is a colourless gas that is soluble in nonpolar solvents, but not in water. Hexachlorodisilane reacts with hydrogen chloride to form stable complexes. These complexes react with hydrochloric acid to produce chlorine and hydrogen gas, which can then be used as a source of hydrogen for industrial purposes. Hexachlorodisilane also reacts with carbon dioxide to form silicon dioxide, which can be used as an ingredient in construction materials such as cement. Hexachlorodisilane has been shown to have a high growth rate in the presence of phosphorus pentoxide and is soluble in x-ray absorbing materials such as carbon tetrachloride or bromoform.
