4-(1H-Imidazol-1-yl)aniline is a solvate that has been optimised to form supramolecular structures with piperidine. It can be used as a catalyst in the nitro reduction of aldehydes, which is important for the production of polyaromatic hydrocarbons. 4-(1H-Imidazol-1-yl)aniline is also able to catalyse the oxidation of carbonaceous materials and the formation of nitrite from ammonia. The solvates are covalently bonded to each other, forming an orthorhombic crystal structure. This compound is not oxidised by air and is resistant to acid, alkali, and heat. Counterions stabilises this compound's structure and prevents it from decomposing.
