4-Isopropoxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (4IMMB) is a synthetic chemical that is used as an acid catalyst in the production of polyester and nylon. 4IMMB is also a nucleophile, meaning that it attacks electrophilic centers by donating electrons. It is soluble in water and can be degraded by hydrogen fluoride. It has two tautomers, which are isomers that differ only in the position of a double bond or other functional group. The carboxylic acid form of 4IMMB has two stereoisomers: erythro and threo. These stereoisomers can be interconverted through a reversible process called tautomerization.
