Description

1-(Isocyanatomethyl)-4-methoxybenzene is an organic compound that is structurally similar to the natural product spongistatin 1. It is a potent and selective inhibitor of the RNA helicase domain of hnRNP L, which may be useful for the treatment of cancer. This compound has been shown to inhibit cellular proliferation in vitro with IC50 values in the low nanomolar range. It also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to nucleophilic sites on β-amino acid residues in proteins, leading to inhibition of translation initiation and decreased ribosome biogenesis. The complexation of this molecule with glucosinolates suggests that it may have potential as a chemotherapeutic agent for cancer treatment due to its stability and high potency.
