2-(Isopropylthio)ethanol (DIPTE) is a chemical that has divalent silver ion activity and which can be used to produce a silver-containing material. DIPTE is an effective catalyst for the synthesis of cyclic, haloalkyl, and ethane compounds. It is also used in the preparation of benzenesulfonic and anthracene derivatives. DIPTE reacts with triazole to form dithionite, which can be used to oxidize thiols with chlorine atom or chlorine gas. Diallylamine can be prepared from 2-(isopropylthio)ethanol by reaction with alkali metal hydroxide.
