Description

Isoleucine is an essential amino acid. It is a branched-chain amino acid that is used in the synthesis of proteins, and it is also important for the metabolism of fats and cholesterol. Isoleucine can be converted to other amino acids such as leucine, valine, and threonine. It is catabolized through a series of reactions that are catalyzed by enzymes including ketoreductase, dehydrogenase, reductase, and oxidase. The rate constant for this conversion has been shown to be 0.02 min-1 at pH 7.5 and 37°C.
