1-Isopropylpiperidin-4-one (1IP) is an inhibitor of phospholipase A2, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phospholipids to release arachidonic acid. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 1IP inhibits secretory phospholipase A2, which generates arachidonic acid from glycerophosphoethanolamine, leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis and cell proliferation. 1IP also has a pharmacophore that resembles that found in naphthalene derivatives, which have been shown to inhibit phospholipases A2.
