Description

5-Iodo-2-methyl-1H-imidazole is an inhibitor of the enzyme histidine decarboxylase, which is involved in the synthesis of histamine. It is used as a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of allergies and for the prevention of motion sickness. 5-Iodo-2-methyl-1H-imidazole has a fungicidal concentration range between 0.05 ppm and 0.5 ppm, but is not active against bacteria or molds. This drug has been shown to produce hyperlocomotion in rats at doses of 50 mg/kg, while also producing sedation at doses of 100 mg/kg. The maximal response to 5-Iodo-2-methyl-1H-imidazole occurs in concentrations between 3 µg/ml and 10 µg/ml, with maximal effective concentrations ranging from 1 µg/ml to 2 µg/ml.
