4-(((1R,2S,5R)-2-Isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyl)oxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid is a natural compound that has been shown to have synergistic effects with sodium carbonate in inhibiting the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. The synergistic effect of these two compounds can be evaluated by measuring the amount of filamentous bacteria in a culture. 4-(((1R,2S,5R)-2-Isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyl)oxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid has also been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and can be used as an oral pharmaceutical dosage.
