Description :
2-Iodo-5-methylthiophene is an activated and reactive Grignard reagent that reacts with terminal alkynes and iodides to form a variety of carbon-carbon bonds, including alkyne-alkene, alkyne-alkyne, and alkyne-aryne. The reaction can be performed in the presence of tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydropyran at temperatures between -78 and -30°C. 2I5MT has been used to synthesize bis(2,3,4,5)tetrahydrofurane derivatives with a variety of functional groups.
