- 3-Iodo-1H-indole
3-Iodoindole is a synthetic compound that can be used in cross-coupling reactions with alkali metals. It can also be used as an activated synthetic precursor for the synthesis of potential pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and natural products. 3-Iodoindole reacts with enolate ions to produce carbazoles by oxidative carbonylation. The reaction mechanism starts with the formation of a 1,2-enolate intermediate, followed by nucleophilic attack on the carbon atom adjacent to the leaving group. The resulting 3-iodoindole derivative is reduced by hydrogen at the end of the reaction. This process also produces l-glutamic acid as a byproduct.
