Description

Isopropamide is a pyrimidine compound that is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical preparations. Isopropamide has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic bronchitis and psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia. Isopropamide binds to fatty acids, which are linked by covalent bonds to form a polymeric matrix. This matrix provides a sustained release of the drug over time. Hydrochloric acid is used to hydrolyze the ester linkages within the polymeric matrix and release isopropamide into solution for absorption. The polymer has a high affinity for water, making it biocompatible and suitable for use in pharmaceutical preparations.
