2-(3-Indolyl)ethyl bromide is a reactive electrophilic reagent that can be used for the detection of ionisation mass, activated dianions, and molecular markers on biomolecules. It has been shown to be useful in the treatments of cancer and necrosis factor-related conditions. 2-(3-Indolyl)ethyl bromide is also an alkylation agent that can react with thiol groups in proteins or nucleic acids by its reaction with electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). This reaction allows the detection of protein profiles and the identification of marker compounds in biological samples such as cells or tissues.
