Description

Ipidacine hydrochloride hydrate is a natural product that belongs to the class of organic acids. It is found in the cavity of plants and has been used as a herb to treat diabetes and neuropathic pain. Ipidacine hydrochloride hydrate has been shown to inhibit microbial growth by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. The inhibition of fatty acid synthesis leads to a decrease in the amount of energy available for cell growth and reproduction, which causes microbial death. Ipidacine hydrochloride hydrate also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. This active form is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
