6-Iodoquinazolin-4-ol is a nitrogen nucleophile that reacts with formamide to produce chloroform, which has a strong odor. It can react with other nitrogen nucleophiles such as amines or ammonia to produce chloramines. 6-Iodoquinazolin-4-ol is not soluble in water, but is soluble in organic solvents such as ether. The compound is used in the synthesis of lapatinib and 2-chloro-5-iodobenzoic acid, which are cancer drugs. 6-Iodoquinazolin-4-ol is also used for the treatment of cancer cells and has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells by reacting with amines.
