Description

4-Isothiocyanatobenzenesulfonamide is a cytosolic agent that inhibits the growth of certain microorganisms. The mechanism of action of 4-isothiocyanatobenzenesulfonamide is not fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of nucleotides and proteins in the mitochondria by binding to enzymes. It also has an apoptotic effect on certain cancer cells, especially those with a high rate of metabolism and oxygen consumption, such as murine hepatoma cells. 4-Isothiocyanatobenzenesulfonamide is an irreversible inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II, which leads to lactic acid accumulation in the cell and subsequent cell death. This drug also has a cytostatic effect on tumor cells through inhibition of DNA synthesis.
