(1H-Indol-5-yl)methylamine is a precursor to the neurotransmitter, adenosine. It is also a nociceptive agent and has shown antinociceptive effects in tissue sites. (1H-Indol-5-yl)methylamine may be an endogenous neuromodulator or it may act as an antagonist of indole 7 carboxylic acid, which is involved in the cellular response to adenosine. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties by blocking prostaglandin synthesis and inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity.
