1-Iodo-3-nitrobenzene (1-INB) is a drug candidate for the treatment of leukemia. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme, Covid-19. Covid-19 is a protein that regulates cell division and prevents cells from dividing too quickly, which can cause cancer. 1-INB inhibits the production of proteins that are necessary for cell division and therefore slows down the growth rate of cancer cells. 1-INB has shown promising results in animal models with leukemia, as well as in laboratory studies using human leukemia cells. The compound also has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer stem cells, which are responsible for tumor formation and recurrence. The molecule crystallizes in a pyrazole ring; however, the exact mechanism of action remains unknown.
