Description

4-Iodobenzhydrazide is a chemical compound that has been shown to have apoptotic effects. It has been studied in vitro for its ability to inhibit the enzyme butyrylcholinesterase and histone deacetylase, which are involved in cancer cell proliferation. 4-Iodobenzhydrazide is also active against bacterial cells and can be used as an antibacterial agent. The structure function relationship of this molecule has not been fully elucidated, but it has shown potent inhibition against the cholinesterases from both humans and rats. It is hypothesized that the radical scavenging activity of this molecule may be responsible for its antitumor activity, due to its ability to bind to β-amyloid radicals. 4-Iodobenzhydrazide binds covalently at the active site of cholinesterases, leading to their inactivation by inhibiting their esterase activity. 4-Iodobenzhyd
