Description

Isotetrandrine is a natural compound that inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and protects cells against oxidative injury. Isotetrandrine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It also has hypoglycemic effects in diabetic mice, with a significant reduction in blood glucose levels and increased insulin sensitivity. The apoptotic effect of isotetrandrine has been observed in HL-60 cells, which is mediated by the mitochondrial pathway. This compound also has genotoxic activity that can lead to cancerous transformation. Isotetrandrine can be synthesized from tetrandrine, an alkaloid found in plants of the genus Papaveraceae.
