Description

N-Isopropyl-4-formylbenzamide is a drug that has been postulated to have anticancer activity. It has been observed to inhibit the growth of leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of action for this compound is not known, but it may act by inhibiting aldehyde dehydrogenase, which converts aldehydes into their corresponding alcohols. This reaction system is important for the detoxification of drugs and other toxic compounds. N-Isopropyl-4-formylbenzamide binds to cellular molecules through covalent bonds and inhibits the production of DNA and RNA. N-Isopropyl-4-formylbenzamide is also an effective inhibitor of aldophosphamide, an anticancer drug that acts by inhibiting DNA synthesis in cancer cells.
