• Description: (-)-Jasmonic acid methyl ester is a natural product isolated from the plant Jasminum officinale. It has been shown to inhibit the development of insect resistance in plants. (-)-Jasmonic acid methyl ester inhibits protein synthesis and also alters the expression of genes for jasmonate biosynthesis. The physiological effects of (-)-jasmonic acid methyl ester are related to its ability to induce wound-healing responses in plants and animals. (-)-Jasmonic acid methyl ester binds to a signal peptide that activates a prokaryotic or eukaryotic polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This binding inhibits DNA replication by blocking the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. (-)-Jasmonic acid methyl ester also binds to specific proteins on animal cells, resulting in inhibition of protein synthesis and body formation.
