6-Ketoprogesterone is a sterol that is synthesized from cholesterol. It has inhibitory activities against picolinic acid oxidase, testicular cytochrome P450, and the enzyme involved in the synthesis of trifluoride. 6-Ketoprogesterone also has depressant effects on the biosynthesis of human chorionic gonadotropin and myotrophic activity. This sterol is converted to pregnenolone by removal of two hydrogens from the 3-position and one hydrogen from the 4-position, as well as conversion to progesterone by removal of two hydrogens from the 5-position. 6-Ketoprogesterone binds to functional groups at positions C3, C5, C6, and C7 on the steroid nucleus.
